Elena studied architecture at the Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya and the University of Bath. She has worked as an architect in Spain and the UK for over 10 years. Before joining the University of the West of England in 2005, Elena built a strong profile in sustainable design at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. Now in academia, she continues to develop her research interests, which focus on the crossover between health, sustainability and architecture.

Elena is also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and has memberships of the RIBA New Courses Group, the Standing Conference of Heads of School of Architecture (SCHOSA) and Member of the Council of Heads of Built Environment (CHOBE). Elena has acted as a visiting critic, external examiner or advisor to many universities in the UK and overseas and she is also a trustee of both the Architecture Centre and the Royal Western Academy in Bristol.
