Board Members

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is the independent regulator of architects in the UK. Our Board provides strategic leadership and oversight, helping to ensure that ARB delivers its statutory functions in the public interest. Through its work, ARB ensures that only appropriately qualified individuals can use the title “architect”, maintains the Register of Architects, and sets the standards expected of those on that Register.

Board members are responsible for promoting and maintaining public confidence in both ARB and the profession. The Board sets ARB’s strategic direction, oversees its performance, and ensures that the organisation fulfils its statutory responsibilities in the public interest.

Led by an independent lay Chair, the Board is made up of both Lay (public) and Architect Members appointed by the Privy Council. Together, they bring a range of experience and perspectives to support effective governance, robust decision-making, and strong public accountability.

The Board is responsible for:

  • Setting ARB’s strategic priorities and long-term direction
  • Overseeing organisational performance and financial sustainability
  • Ensuring effective governance and risk management
  • Supporting public confidence in the regulation of architects
  • Monitoring delivery of ARB’s statutory functions
  • Promoting high standards of integrity, competence and professionalism
  • Bringing diverse perspectives to decisions that affect the built environment

The Board is supported by a number of committees, which provide detailed scrutiny and advice in key areas of ARB’s work.
