Sean Hammond

Professional Conduct Committee, Legally Qualified Member

Biography

I was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1991 and have been a self-employed barrister at the London Bar for almost 30 years. I specialise in regulatory law and professional discipline, military law, serious fraud and financial crime. Over the years, I have prosecuted and defended in many high profile and complex trials including multi-jurisdictional cases.

I am regularly instructed to represent individuals in relation to fitness to practise hearings before the conduct and competence committees of numerous professional regulatory bodies including the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the General Dental Council, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the General Optical Council. I also defend service personnel and their dependents in courts-martials and service civilian courts in the UK, Germany, and Cyprus. I am admitted as an Advocate of the Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus.

I have been appointed as a Legal Adviser and Legally Qualified Chair/Panel Member to a number of healthcare and other regulatory bodies. At present, I hold the following appointments:

2008 – Legal Assessor to the Nursing and Midwifery Council
2014 – Legal Assessor to the General Chiropractic Council
