Sean Hammond

Biography

Sean Hammond was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1991 and has been a self-employed barrister at the London Bar for almost 30 years. He specialises in regulatory law and professional discipline, military law, serious fraud and financial crime. Over the years, Sean has prosecuted and defended in many high profile and complex trials including multi-jurisdictional cases.

Sean is regularly instructed to represent individuals in relation to fitness to practise hearings before the conduct and competence committees of numerous professional regulatory bodies including the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the General Dental Council, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the General Optical Council. He also defends service personnel and their dependents in courts-martials and service civilian courts in the UK, Germany, and Cyprus. He is admitted as an Advocate of the Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus.

Sean has been appointed as a Legal Adviser and Legally Qualified Chair/Panel Member to a number of healthcare and other regulatory bodies. At present, he holds the following appointments:

2008 – Legal Assessor to the Nursing and Midwifery Council
2014 – Legal Assessor to the General Chiropractic Council
2015 – Legal Adviser to the United Kingdom Psychotherapy Council
2018 – Legal Assessor to the Health and Care Professions Council
2019 – Legal Adviser to Social Work England
