Neil Calvert’s professional background is in education, and he has served as a secondary school headteacher, the CEO of a multi-academy trust and as Vice Chair of Governing Council at the University of Derby. His current portfolio of roles includes lay panel member and chair positions on investigation and fitness to practise committees with three professional regulators in health and social care sector and a public appointment in the criminal justice system.  An Accredited Lay Pension Trustee, he also holds appointments as the Independent Chair of the Derbyshire Local Government Pension Board and the Remuneration Committee Chair of the Commission for Local Administration in England.
