Biography
Tony holds a number of governance positions including roles as Chair for The Conservation Volunteers, of the Construction Industry Council’s Housing Panel, Council member of the national Academy of Social Sciences, Director of the Kensington & Chelsea TMO Ltd Residuary Board, and a member, of the Planning Policy & Research Committee, Royal Town Planning Institute: . He is also former Pro-Vice Chancellor and currently Emeritus Professor of Town & Regional Planning of The University of Sheffield.
In addition, Tony was a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Trustee Board; deputy Chair of the Orbit Housing Group; chaired the Rotherham council governance review and the Shelter Trustee Board and was a member of Lloyds Banking Group and Northern England housing commissions. He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2004 and appointed CBE in the 2014 New Year Honours. He won the RTPI Research Excellence Award in 2016 for his latest book and the Sir Peter Hall award for research engagement in 2020.
