Neil is registered as an architect with ARB, and a Lecturer with over 10 year’s progressive experience in both professional practice and higher education teaching.
Following completion of his studies Neil worked in private practice across Scotland covering a broad range of sectors including Higher and Further Education Projects, Residential Design, Listed Building Conversions, Commercial and Leisure Developments and Master planning. A large proportion of this time was spent working at senior level in a Multinational practice including a spell on secondment to the Dubai office. Neil established his own practice in 2017 and works principally with private residential clients and community based organisations.
Running in parallel with this professional experience, Neil has worked part-time for Dundee University since Graduating in 2005. Following 11 years as a part time studio tutor, Neil joined the staff as a Lecturer in Teaching and Scholarship in 2016. He is currently the leader of the Year Three programme as well as frequently assisting in assessments for all levels of the M.Arch course.
The balance between professional practice and teaching has allowed Neil to develop a scholarly approach with particular focus on knowledge transfer between applied practice and higher education teaching. Neil is currently undertaking the fellowship modules of the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education, working towards membership of the Higher Education Academy.
