Martin qualified in 2005 as a Solicitor Advocate in England and Wales and continues to practise regulatory and criminal law. In 2014 he was appointed by the farming minister as a legally qualified member of the Independent Agricultural Appeals Panel to hear appeals against decisions relating to the administration of payments under the Common Agricultural Payment scheme. He chairs the misconduct and disciplinary panels of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
