The Readiness for Practice UK (RfPUK) Module is a forthcoming online learning module and assessment for international applicants applying through ARB’s international MRA routes.
The new module is currently in development, and is expected to be implemented in spring 2027.
It will:
- Support international applicants who have met the relevant MRA requirements to practise safely and effectively in the UK
- Be delivered through a structured online learning platform with supporting assessments
- Replace the current UK Adaptation Assessment (UKAA)
Background and engagement
In January 2024 ARB surveyed 194 internationally-qualified architects. Three quarters (74%) of those architects indicated that they received or sought out support or independent learning to adapt to UK practice.
In October 2024 ARB announced proposals to introduce an online gateway assessment focusing on UK-specific knowledge and readiness to practise in a UK context, which would be designed to replace the UK Adaptation Assessment.
A consultation on these proposals ran until January 2025. The results were published in July 2025 and showed strong support, with 86% of respondents agreeing with the proposal for a competence-based assessment.
Next steps
ARB is continuing to develop the RfPUk online module and assessment, and expects to implement it in spring 2027.
