The Registration Assurance Process introduces a new way in which ARB will assess competence for registration. This will replace the current process involving our Competency Standards Group.
It will facilitate three new routes to registration for individuals who:
- Left the Register more than two years ago, or who completed their final ARB-accredited Part 3 or Practice Outcomes qualification more than two years ago,
- Hold ARB-accredited Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications but are without an ARB-accredited Part 1
- Were removed from the Register for failing to comply with ARB’s CPD scheme
Where an individual has ARB-accredited Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications, or has passed ARB’s Part 2 Prescribed Exam, they will no longer require a Part 1 qualification to apply to join the Register and ARB will no longer run a Prescribed Exam at Part 1.
Background and engagement
Proposals for the RAP and the three associated routes were announced on 22 October 2025 and consulted on until 2 Feb 2026, along with proposals for changes to ARB’s Registration Rules to facilitate its implementation. The consultation showed strong support for the proposals and across all three routes. Clear majorities of respondents agreed that the proposals would create a more proportionate process and increase access to the Register. More information can be found in the consultation report.
Next steps
Following the high levels of support during our consultation, ARB is proceeding with the proposals for the new RAP and three associated routes. The route for individuals who were removed from the Register for failing to comply with ARB’s CPD scheme has already been implemented, and we expect to operationalise the other new routes by spring 2027. ARB will publish guidance ahead of implementation covering eligibility, the evidence requirements and how to apply.
In addition, ARB’s Registration Rules have been updated to support the implementation of the new RAP.
