The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is delighted to announce the appointment of Karen Holmes as Registrar and Chief Executive.
Karen Holmes, whose appointment was approved by the Board on 24 June 2015, will take up her post on 1st July 2015. Karen has previously undertaken the role on an interim basis since the beginning of 2014 following the departure of Alison Carr, the former Registrar. In addition to this, Karen undertook the role of Acting Registrar for a six month period in 2006.
Karen first joined the ARB as Head of Registration in 1999 and was Deputy Registrar from 2006-2014.
The post was advertised internally and Karen was interviewed by the three Board members who form the Remuneration Committee. The appointment was unanimously agreed by the Board.
Beatrice Fraenkel, Chair of the Architects Registration Board said, ‘We are delighted that Karen Holmes has accepted the role of Registrar and Chief Executive, a role which she has previously filled for almost two years in total already. Her commitment to regulatory policy and her ability to lead the organisation through the periodic review with the full support of her colleagues stood out to the panel. As a leader, Karen Holmes is both a ‘solid pair of hands’, who has clearly demonstrated her effectiveness, as well as an innovator and reflective thinker, who is keen to continue building new relationships and maintain and improve services.’
Karen Holmes said, ‘I am very pleased to be appointed Registrar and Chief Executive of the Architects Registration Board. I am committed to delivering on the Board’s strategy to deliver effective regulation for the benefit of architects and users of architects services. I look forward to working with the Board and the staff team as we await the outcome of the periodic review and remain open and responsive to any changes which may lie ahead.’
